Abdominal pain and stomach ache are common conditions everyone can experience due to various causes. There are several organs located and found in the lower left abdominal area of the body such as the sigmoid colon, lower end portion of the left kidney, urinary bladder, left ovary of the women, and large blood vessels which are part of the heart’s aorta. Pain in lower left abdomen can be a mild condition caused by IBS or Irritable Bowel Movement, indigestion and constipation. But it can also be a sign of other serious ailments involving the major organs located in the lower left abdomen.
Pain in lower left abdomen may be experienced by men and women in all ages but women are the most prone to this type of ailment because the tubes and ovaries, and the womb are all located in the lower abdomen. If one of these organs are affected or has certain problems, people may definitely suffer from constant pain which could lead to chronic diseases if not treated properly. Common Causes of Lower Left Abdominal Pain
- Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm – this occurs when the Aorta, the large blood vessel that carries blood away from the heart becomes swollen or bloated, leaks blood and eventually ruptures. Because of the rapture, people may feel great pain in lower left side of the abdomen and may even lead to collapsing and lower blood pressure.
- Diverticulitis – this condition is one of the most common causes of abdominal pain in the lower left side of the body. This is basically a disease involving the large intestine and usually occurs in people aging 60 years and above.
- Appendicitis – this is also another common cause of abdominal pain due to the inflammation of the appendix found in the upper part of the colon.
- Ectopic Pregnancy – ectopic pregnancy occurs when the eggs are fertilized on the fallopian tube and not on the uterus. This is a very serious condition and should be given proper attention once diagnosed. Women that are suffering from frequent pain in left abdomen during their pregnancy should consult a doctor or an ob-gynecologist in order to determine the condition.
Aside from the mentioned diseases above, other common causes of pain in lower left abdomen are kidney stones, kidney infection or the Pyelonephritis, endometriosis, bowel cancer, hernia, ovarian cyst, sigmoid volvulus, psoas abscess and Crohn’s disease.
